I have had this project in me for several years and I am happy that it could now be realized.

“Sintonia” originates from my long-cherished wish as a musician and handpan builder to build a “sister handpan” in small size for the currently quite common handpan D minor scale (often called “Kurd 8” or “Kurd 9”). I wanted to integrate low notes as well as meaningful additional notes to the “Kurd”, but also to have an independent instrument with an inspiring scale.

The Taopan Handpan in 46cm “Sintonia” has the tones Bb2, D4, E4, F4, G4, A4, Bb4, D5, F5 on the top and can be expanded with bottom notes on the bottom (e.g. F3 and G3).

It is 1:1 compatible with a “Kurd 8” or “Kurd 9” (D A Bb C D E F G A plus possibly C) and expands it with additional notes, but also has a beautiful elegance as an independent scale, which I find soft and melodic.

I’ve only known for some time that a low note like Bb2 is even possible at 46cm and it opens up some new worlds for me.

Let’s see what else is to come … A video will follow…
